On the afternoon of Oct. 8, CMEE Executive Secretary-general Chen Zhongqiu met with the curators of Guangzhou Museum, South China Sea 1#Museum and Dongguan Museum and designers from the exhibition design agency to optimize the design of achievements exhibition area of CMEE.

The navy blue merchant ship highlights CMEE

The designers detailed the ideas for the exhibition area design to the attendees. The exhibition area is made like a navy blue merchant ship cruising in blue sea water, with the main color of sea blue to embody the “One Belt and One Road” strategy. The door lintel with silk band drapes, oval-shaped interior with silk band ornaments and big and small curves on the outer contour assume the extensive charm of the Marine Silk Road, pointing to the dream of a new world where trade partners along the route team up to seek for perfect collaboration. The entry design, symbolic of the long-held national pride of the Chinese people, features a range of LED full sails to represent the tradition of the “One Belt and One Road” strategy as well as the image of China, the world and major world leaders in a striking way. The entry makes a highlight of the expo.

The exhibition area includes three sectors and two pavilions

The exhibition area highlights three sectors, namely, history & culture, trade & commerce accomplishments, and investment. It comes with two pavilions (South China Sea 1#, and the Humen Naval Battle) and five entries, providing spacious interior and unblocked routes. Two designs are made for South China Sea 1# Pavilion. One includes copper coin exhibits on display in the middle of the exhibition area, which make up a bigger coin as an eye-catching highlight. The alternative relates to a sea chart reconstructing the “One Belt and One Road” with many copper coins. Both schemes highlight the curios salvaged from South China Sea 1# and suggest the ever glory of the Marine Silk Road.

By comparison, Humen Opium War Museum is themed with westward transfusion of Eastern civilization. It deals with three themes, namely, Guangdong and the world in the greater navigation era, Guangzhou’s 13 chartered foreign traders (witness to the Prospering Marine Silk Road), and white wood incense (miracle perfume transported via the Marine Silk Road). The museum reconstructs the prospering trade in the greater navigation era.

The draft nears perfection with quite a few discussions and modifications

Upon hearing the report, Secretary-general Chen Zhongqiu gave the design credit for diverse contents and adequate affirmation of the role of Marine Silk Road while suggesting route optimization and color tone diversification for the exhibition areas. He proposed combining the two plans and seeking further modification. Other attendees also commented on the designs so that the design agency would summarize the opinions based on which a better plan could be developed.

Reliable sources prove that the Secretariat of the Organizing Committee is making such a point of the exhibition area design that successive workshops have been called to revise the draft for eight times. Now the preliminary design has been finalized except that a few details require refinement in pursuit of perfection.
