The Dongguan municipal government called a special meeting on the morning of October 9 to sum up the preparations for the CMEE 2015 and make an arrangement for the work in later stage. The meeting is attended by Xu Jianhua (CPC Dongguan Committee Secretary and the deputy director of CMEE Organizing Committee), Yuan Baocheng (CPC Dongguan Committee Deputy Secretary and Mayor), and Wu Jun (Provincial Port Office Director, Deputy Director-General of Department of Commerce, and CMEE Organizing Committee Secretary-general). Deputy Mayor and CMEE Executive Secretary-general Yang Xiaotang chaired the meeting.
CMEE Executive Secretary-general Chen Zhongqiu reported on behalf of the Secretariat on the preparations and the work plan for the next stage, followed by principals of CPC Dongguan Committee Publicity Department, Municipal Public Security Bureau and Municipal Bureau of Commerce who, respectively reported on the preparations underway. Now, preparations are in progress in a methodical and appreciably fruitful way and the work is ahead of the schedule. Seventy countries and regions have shown an intention of participation as either exhibitors or visitors. More than 50 countries and regions will be got involved as exhibitors.
Upon hearing all the reports, Mayor Yuan Baocheng gave positive remarks on the efforts in the previous stage, demanding that the government agencies assume a definite role in refining and going into the details of the plans. Specifically, the role concerns three main aspects. First, the mechanism for communication with the Customs and the Entry-Exit Inspection & Quarantine should be improved to smooth importation of exhibits. Second, the mechanism for communication with competent provincial departments and Guangzhou should be improved and guest reception service closely followed up on. Third, the mechanism for communication with local trade associations should be improved to increase the involvement of professional visitors. Mayor Yuan Baocheng also made new demands on what to do next based on the existing domestic and foreign situations and the characteristics of the coming CMEE.
Secretary-general Wu Jun pointed out that compared with the last CMEE, the coming event would take place earlier, attract more international involvement, and call for more time for preparation and more investment. As the host city, Dongguan has maneuvered and prepared resources at all administration levels with appreciable achievements, laying a solid groundwork for the success of the CMEE. The next step for the city is to do its best to bring out the vital economic role of Guangdong by hosting the event successfully and reaffirming Guangdong place in trade and economic cooperation. Special stress should be placed on the last few days before the opening and every careful effort made in site arrangement, exhibits pass, fire safety, guest reception and propaganda, since high-grade communication and coordination contribute to a successful exhibition.
CPC Dongguan Committee Secretary Xu Jianhua made a point of the meeting’s purpose of summarizing the achievements of the early stage and mobilizing all resources for the final preparatory steps. He confirmed the successful achievements of the early stage as a milestone progress, expressing firm conviction of a more practical and fruitful expo. He made three requirements. First, every endeavor should be made to ensure safety and prevent terrorism, epidemic disease, fire, traffic incidents and civil disturbances. As a basic requirement, he ordered emergency response plans to be prepared to ensure safety over the expo. Second, it is important that the expo take place successfully. We should conduct all work based on the predetermined goals and collect more comments on the exhibition from exhibitors and purchasers to provide better services and efficiency. Third, mechanisms should be enhanced for the CMEE. Every year, Dongguan holds a lot of expositions, including the CMEE; therefore, it’s important that a set of practical measures be summarized, integrated as long-term mechanisms and improved consistently in case staffing changes detract from the expositions. As the last requirement, Party Secretary Xu Jianhua reiterated the decisive part of attention to detail and execution to success. That points to the significance of executing every detail of the job to finalize the ongoing achievements as expected.
